Governors
Childwall Church of England Primary School Governing Body is responsible for raising school standards through their four core strategic functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and ensuring its money is well spent
- Acting as its own admission authority, setting policies, making admission decisions and defending admission appeals
The Governing Body works in partnership with our headteacher, staff, parents and families, Trustees of Salisbury House,
Local Authority and the Diocese towards the continuing improvement in standards and achievements at our school. The School Development Plan (SDP) supports this process.
As a body we meet regularly and our members are involved in committees that focus in greater depth upon: the school’s finance; personnel and performance; admissions; premises; vision and values; and standards and quality. Each committee meets at least once a term.
A lot of work goes on outside of the formal committee meetings with governors scrutinising results, visiting classes and events, speaking to teachers, parents and staff, attending training, receiving reports and updates from the headteacher and ensuring they know every aspect of the school. Our governors work to agreed Terms of Reference which are reviewed each year. These set out the duties and responsibilities in detail and which they agree to follow each year.
A number of the governors are link governors which means they have a particular responsibility for a specific area of school life and meet regularly with the school leaders. The governors are supported in their work by the clerk to governors- and by the deputy and assistant headteachers who attend the committee meetings in a non-voting capacity.
