National Year of Reading 2026

We kicked off the year by publishing our ‘Childwall Challenge’ – a year’s worth of fun, interactive challenges you can take part in with your children. Click the link below to see the PDF and join in!

National Year of Reading Childwall Challenge

Thank you to everyone who supported our Scholastic Book Fair back in October – thanks to your generosity, we were able to purchase over £1800 worth of brand new books, specially selected by class teachers, for our class libraries. These will arrive in school shortly as part of our National Year of Reading celebrations.

This year, for the first time, we are pleased to provide bi-monthly PDF copies of the newsletter ‘Bookdrop’. Click the links below to download.

Bookdrop Issue 2 – Mar/Apr 2026

Sophie Melia author visit, 2nd March

We invited local author Sophie Melia into school to read and discuss her wonderful debut book ‘What If’ with the children. A group of Year 3s gave feedback and had the opportunity to ask some really interesting questions.

World Book Day 2026

We celebrated World Book Day on Tuesday 3rd March as our Year 4s were on their PGL residential later in the week. It was a wonderful day filled with imagination, creativity and the joy that reading brings.

Year 1s’ visit to The Reader, World Book Day

On the ‘official’ World Book Day, our Year 1s were invited to The Reader in Calderstones Park for the UK’s largest World Book Day celebration event. They met authors, took part in drawalongs with illustrators, received signed copies of books and took parts in lots of lovely activities to celebrate reading for pleasure. They even appeared on the BBC North West Tonight news that evening!
