SIAMS – Supporting Our Church School

As a Church of England school, we are part of a family of schools that place Christian vision and values at the heart of everything they do. One of the ways this is supported and celebrated is through SIAMS.

What is SIAMS?

SIAMS stands for Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools. All Church of England schools are inspected under SIAMS to evaluate how well the school is living out its Christian vision and how this impacts pupils and adults.

Unlike other inspections, SIAMS focuses specifically on the distinctiveness and effectiveness of our school as a Church school. It looks at how our Christian values shape daily life, decision-making and relationships across the whole school community.

The Purpose of SIAMS

The purpose of a SIAMS inspection is to:

  • Explore how our Christian vision influences school life and supports pupils to flourish
  • Evaluate the impact of collective worship on pupils and staff
  • Consider the quality of Religious Education (RE) as a core subject
  • Look at how the school supports the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils
  • Recognise how the school lives out values such as respect, compassion, forgiveness and hope

At its heart, SIAMS is about ensuring that our school provides a caring, inclusive and nurturing environment where every child is valued and encouraged to be the best they can be.

What are Keeping on Track Visits?

Keeping on Track (KoT) visits are supportive visits carried out by representatives from the Diocese. They are not inspections and do not grade the school.

Instead, these visits are designed to:

  • Support the school in developing and strengthening its Christian vision and ethos
  • Help leaders reflect on what is working well and identify areas for further development
  • Ensure the school continues to grow and improve as a Church school
  • Prepare the school confidently for a future SIAMS inspection

How Keeping on Track Visits Help Our School

Keeping on Track visits play an important role in helping us remain focused on our Church school identity. During a visit, discussions may include collective worship, Religious Education, leadership, pupil voice and how our Christian values are lived out in practice.

These visits are collaborative and supportive, offering guidance and affirmation while helping us to ensure that our provision continues to meet the needs of our pupils and community.

Reassurance for Parents

For parents and carers, SIAMS and Keeping on Track visits provide reassurance that:

  • Our school’s Christian ethos is strong, purposeful and inclusive
  • Pupils are supported to develop spiritually as well as academically
  • We regularly reflect on and improve our provision as a Church of England school

Together, SIAMS and Keeping on Track visits help us to ensure that our school remains a place where children feel safe, valued and inspired to flourish within a caring Christian community.
